Solon Two Day Tournament 2016 Logistics
Greetings! As we get to tournament week for the Solon Two Day, I wanted to share “gameday” details with you.
PLEASE NOTE: Because of other events in the building, there will be different entry points and gathering places between Saturday and Sunday. Please read the appropriate section for that info.
Saturday February 13th NAQT 154
Arrival: Enter the high school from the East driveway. If you are coming from SOM Center Rd., this is the first driveway on the left. Your busses can pull into the small parking lot to the right and drop you off at the Commons Door there. Busses can then park back in the larger lot next to the Board of Education.
Please arrive between 8:00 and 8:30. As of now, the forecast calls for cold and light snow. Since we have multiple schools from Dayton and Michigan that will probably be in town the night before, we won’t cancel unless we have a catastrophic forecast ahead of time. Otherwise, count on braving the elements (within reason…). Please make every effort to be on time, as we want to be able to give all teams the full amount of games, play a few rounds of trash, and still get out at a decent hour.
We will have a readers’ meeting at 8:45 and a general opening meeting in the cafeteria shortly thereafter.
Format: For Varsity, we will play five matches in the morning of 20 untimed tossup/bonus cycles. We will then re-bracket during lunch and play championship and consolation divisions in the afternoon. Ties that determine consolation/championship bracket status will be broken with partial packets. Depending on final records, a final will then be played. Trophies will be given to the champion, runner-up, consolation bracket winners, and individual leading scorers. The goal is to finish regular rounds by 3, and finals finished no later than 4.
Lunch: will be served in our cafeteria. $5.00 for two slices of pizza, a drink, and chips. Please patronize our concessions!
Trash: Immediately following finals, we will begin a 3-5 round tossup only trash tournament. The team and I wrote these questions for maximum playability. Teams can be mix and match between schools, parents, coaches, etc...Anyone is welcome to play and this is totally free. (And between the kids and myself I think we’ve covered a large range of generational appeal!) We will do sign-ups for trash in the morning and during lunch, but feel free to rsvp with number of teams at any time. Trash should take about an hour total.
Rosters: Please enter your rosters on this document as soon as you can. This will help us start earlier in the morning and allow us to get stats up online sooner, which we know the kids appreciate.
If you are staying for Sunday, if at all possible please leave your buzzers set up in the rooms overnight. The rooms will be locked.
Sunday February 14th NAQT MS 16 and Harvard Fall Tournament
IMPORTANT: The entry for Sunday will be from our West driveway (the second left from SOM Center). There is a small parking lot on the left as you pull up the driveway. Busses can park in the large Pool parking lot. Enter at the Lecture Hall doors. The Lecture Hall is the octagonal building that is the very first building as you come up the drive. Map here.
High School: Since most of the teams will have stayed overnight, I’d like to start play by 8:30, so please plan on arriving between 8:00-8:15. Scoring will be PACE format: 20 pt powers, 10 pt tossups, no negs, bounceback bonuses, no timeouts. We will play a full round robin of 7 games, then split into championship and consolation brackets of 4 teams each and play a 3 game round robin. If a team has cleared the field by two games, they have won the tournament. If the top team is up by one game, the top two will play an advantaged final. If the top two teams are tied, they will play a one game final. Whenever necessary we will break ties by playing partial packets. Trophies will be awarded to the champion, the runner up, and to individual high scorers.
Middle School: Please arrive between 8:30-9:00 AM. We will try to start play between 9:00-9:15. As of now, we have 9 teams signed up, so each team will play 8 matches and have a bye round. At the end of prelims, a final will be played between the top two teams if they are within one game of each other. If a team has cleared the field by two games, they have won the tournament. Trophies will be awarded to the champion, the runner up, and to individual high scorers.
Rosters: Please enter your rosters on this document as soon as you can. Note that there is a separate sheet at the bottom of the page for Middle School. This will help us start earlier in the morning and allow us to get stats up online sooner, which we know the kids appreciate. Email Peter for the link.
Thanks very much to everyone in advance for making the trip to Solon, and we look forward to seeing you on the 13th and 14th!
